The Rumbao Market Barista is a service specialist and a key part of the guest experience in the heart of historic Old San Juan. With a genuine passion for the daily grind coffee lovers seek, our Barista brings expert knowledge of espresso machines and specialty coffee preparation, skill in food and pastry preparation, and a natural service disposition, whether at the counter or at the table. Through sincere service that is attentive, quick, efficient, and professional, the Barista upholds the highest service standards for every guest, every cup, every day.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Sincere Service

• Welcome every guest with a warm, genuine, and friendly disposition, delivering sincere service at the counter and at the table.
• Share knowledge of the coffee menu, pastry offerings, and historic Old San Juan to enrich each guest’s experience.
• Remain professional, composed, and courteous in all situations, including peak periods and guest concerns.
• Partner with other hotel departments to anticipate guest needs, resolve requests, and maintain cleanliness standards.

The Daily Grind

• Prepare and serve espresso, gourmet coffee, and specialty beverages to Rumbao recipe, presentation, and quality standards.
• Operate, clean, and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment according to proper use and safety procedures.
• Prepare, plate, and display food and pastry items with consistency and care.
• Follow all food handling, sanitation, and food safety procedures.

Transactions and Accountability

• Process cash, credit card, and other approved payments accurately while maintaining a balanced bank.
• Verify guest name and room number before posting room charges.
• Follow all established SOPs
• Assist with monthly inventory, stock rotation, and product replenishment.

Market Presentation and Standards

• Keep counters, shelves, tables, fixtures, glass, and floors clean and guest-ready throughout the shift.
• Maintain seating areas so they are clean, organized, and inviting at all times.
• Present a polished appearance in accordance with Rumbao uniform and grooming standards.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills in Spanish and English.
• Basic experience in food and beverage preparation.
• Basic math skills needed to understand and implement recipes and measurements.
• Good eye/hand coordination needed to use all kitchen equipment.
• Requires a working knowledge of sanitation standards.
• Prepares daily requisition for supplies and food items for production
• Work cohesively with entire hotel staff as part of a team.
• Maintain food preparation handling and correct storage standards.
• Support procedures for food & beverage portion and waste controls.
• Understands, follows and maintains all standardized recipes.
• Maintain all coolers and freezers, prep area and equipment up to State Health Department codes at all times.
