The PM Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of the hotel's mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems, with a primary focus on afternoon and evening operations. This position supports the Engineering Department by coordinating maintenance activities, responding to operational needs, ensuring timely completion of work orders, and maintaining the overall condition, safety, and functionality of the property, including guest rooms, public areas, equipment, grounds, and facilities.
The PM Assistant Chief Engineer also provides leadership and guidance to Engineering associates, assists with preventative maintenance programs, and ensures that hotel standards and safety procedures are consistently maintained.

Assists the Chief Engineer in overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering Department, with primary responsibility for maintenance activities during the PM shift.
Provides direction, guidance, and support to Engineering associates to ensure maintenance requests and assigned tasks are completed efficiently and according to hotel standards.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs malfunctions in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems and equipment throughout the hotel.
Performs and assists in coordinating scheduled preventative maintenance, including guest room maintenance, equipment inspections, and routine building upkeep.
Monitors and responds to maintenance requests from guest rooms, public areas, and hotel departments, prioritizing urgent issues to minimize disruptions to hotel operations.
Ensures that all maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance assignments, and equipment service records are properly completed and documented.
Assists in maintaining the hotel's swimming pool and related equipment, including water chemistry, filtration systems, and required maintenance logs, as applicable.
Inspects and maintains the overall appearance and condition of the property, including building exteriors, grounds, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
Responds promptly to after-hours maintenance emergencies, equipment failures, and operational concerns, coordinating with hotel leadership and the Chief Engineer as necessary.
Communicates outstanding maintenance issues, equipment concerns, and shift updates to the Chief Engineer and appropriate hotel management to ensure continuity between shifts.
Assists with monitoring equipment performance, identifying potential maintenance concerns, and recommending corrective actions to prevent service interruptions.
Supports the Chief Engineer in maintaining compliance with applicable safety regulations, company policies, and hotel operating standards.
Ensures Engineering associates follow established safety and security procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
Maintains knowledge of hotel fire prevention procedures, emergency response protocols, and building safety systems.
Identifies and promptly reports unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, near-misses, property damage, or equipment failures to appropriate management.
Coordinates with other hotel departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, and Food & Beverage, to address maintenance needs and support efficient hotel operations.
Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory levels of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment, and communicates replenishment needs to the Chief Engineer.
Maintains a neat, clean, professional, and well-groomed appearance in accordance with company grooming and uniform standards.
Assists other Engineering personnel with maintenance assignments and special projects as operational needs require.
Performs additional related duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer or hotel management.
Qualifications
The Hotel may consider an equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined below, when applicable.
Strong working knowledge of hotel maintenance operations, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general building repairs.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hotel equipment and building systems.
Previous experience in hotel Engineering or facilities maintenance, with supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Ability to assist the Chief Engineer in coordinating daily maintenance operations, assigning work, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance requests.
Ability to provide leadership, guidance, and technical support to Engineering associates while maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
Strong understanding of preventative maintenance programs, equipment inspections, and maintenance documentation.
Ability to independently assess maintenance concerns, prioritize repairs, and make sound decisions during PM operations.
Knowledge of building safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and applicable maintenance regulations.
Ability to recognize potential safety hazards, security concerns, and equipment failures and take appropriate corrective action.
Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and materials commonly used in hotel maintenance.
Ability to effectively communicate maintenance concerns, operational updates, and outstanding work orders to the Chief Engineer and hotel leadership.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple maintenance requests in a fast-paced hotel environment.
Ability to coordinate effectively with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and other departments to minimize operational disruptions.
Ability to interact professionally with guests and associates, demonstrating patience, tact, diplomacy, and a commitment to excellent guest service.
Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution-oriented when responding to emergencies, equipment failures, and time-sensitive maintenance concerns.
Working knowledge of the hotel's physical layout, including guest rooms, meeting spaces, public areas, mechanical rooms, and back-of-house facilities.
Ability to follow and enforce hotel policies and procedures, including grooming standards, safety, security, key control, and emergency protocols.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively in English as required to perform essential job responsibilities.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Additional technical training, trade certifications, or equivalent experience in Engineering or facilities maintenance is desirable.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on hotel operational needs.
Ability to stand, walk, and perform essential job functions for extended periods throughout the assigned shift.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including hot, cold, humid, and wet environments, both indoors and outdoors.
Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, reach, and climb while performing maintenance tasks.
Ability to safely climb stairs and ladders, including working at elevated heights of up to 30 feet when required.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 100 pounds, with appropriate assistance or lifting equipment when necessary.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
Visual and hearing abilities sufficient to inspect equipment, identify maintenance concerns, and recognize emergency situations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to walk significant distances throughout the property, including guest floors, mechanical areas, exterior grounds, and back-of-house facilities.
Ability to perform physically demanding maintenance activities while following established safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
Ability to respond promptly to urgent maintenance needs and emergency situations throughout the property.
